With the Preseli mountains and the coastal national park close to hand walkers visiting Pembrokeshire are spoilt for choice

The Preseli mountains rise to a height of 1760 ft and provide stunning views of the rugged coastline and wooded inland valleys. Steeped in history there are dozens of standing stones, hill forts and burial sites dating back thousands of years. It is from these mountains that the bluestones used to build stonehenge were transported.

The Pembrokeshire Coastal path runs for 186 miles and is one of the most outstanding stretches of coastline in the country with a spectacular landscape of rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, wooded estuaries and wild inland hills. Noted for its diverse wildlife this is a great place to see all manner of birds as well as dolphins, porpoises and grey deals.

If you would like to walk a stretch of coastal path or traverse the Preseli mountains directly we can arrange to drop you off or pick you up.

Bird watching

Pembrokeshire offers some unrivalled bird-watching opportunities. In winter you can enjoy watching wildfowl, waders and other waterbirds like Slavion Greebs, Great Northern Divers and Little Egrets on the Cleddau, Nevern and Teifi rivers. Peregrines, Merlins and Hen Harriers hunt widely across the county and large flocks of Lapwings and Golden Plovers often tower over the landscape. In the spring look out for for the migrant seabirds, swallows and warblers. Summer is a good time to visit seabird colonies, to enjoy the bustle and spectacle of their hectic breeding cycle. Such visits often provide good views of Peregrines, Ravens and Choughs that inhabit the same habitat. During autumn coastal areas and the islands are worth searching for passage waders, and watching coastal waters can sometime reveal spectacular passages of seabirds.

Falconry

Try your hand at Falconry at the Welsh Bird of Prey Centre (just up the road from us at Llechryd). It is a unique hands on experience presented in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. You will experience the thrill of seeing a bird flying free and returning on command to your gloved fist. They offer half and full day courses.

Golf

Pembrokeshire has an abundance of first class golf courses to choose from. Many are coastal, with stunning panoramic views to inspire you and make your golf even more enjoyable.

Close by are Cardigan (18 hole, 12 miles) and Newport (9 hole, 14 miles).

Fishing

The River Teifi, which flows through Cenarth less than 2 miles away, is one of the top salmon and sewin (sea trout) rivers in Wales. Fishing is available on almost 30 miles of the river which sees ever changing levels of water flow throughout the Spring, Summer and Autumn months. Whether experienced or the novice fisherman we recommend using qualified Guides and Instructors and none better than the Teifi River Guides. You will find their knowledge invaluable. Permits can be purchased through guides or the Teifi Trout Association. Do look at our speciality breaks especially for fishermen.

Cycling

Pembrokeshire's contrasting terrain is criss-crossed by an extensive network of quite country lanes, making it a great destination for cyclists of all abilities. There are also opportunities to enjoy traffic-free rides through some of the county's spectacular scenery on both surfaced and un-surfaced tracks. Local cycle hire available.

Canoeing

Heritage Canoes, Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve, Cilgerran, Pembrokeshire SA43 2TB. Canoe and Kayaking trips for individuals or groups. Phone 01239 613961, view the website or tell us your requirements and we'll make all the arrangements for you.

Rock climbing

The Pembrokeshire coast offers some of the best sea climbing in Britain with grades to suit the beginner upwards. Generally on good quality limestone some areas are only accessible by abseil and require a high minimum level of competence. In the North Carreg-y-barcud has some excellent routes (try Kitten Claws, E3 5c) from VS upwards. Generally the South offers a wider range of routes at lower grades.
